The short version

Warrior Retirement provides educational content, not financial advice. We are not your financial advisor, tax preparer, attorney, or benefits counselor. Read everything here with that understanding.

What this means in practice

  • The articles, guides, and analyses on this site are for general education. They explain how federal retirement systems work. They do not account for your specific situation.
  • The calculators are projection tools, not promises. They use simplifying assumptions about markets, inflation, taxes, and benefit rules. Real-world outcomes will differ from any projection.
  • The strategy content presents approaches that work for typical federal employees, military retirees, and veterans. Your specific circumstances may make these approaches wrong for you.
  • The numbers (contribution limits, brackets, COLAs, eligibility thresholds) are accurate at time of publication but change frequently. Verify with OPM, IRS, SSA, VA, or DFAS before acting on any specific number.

Federal retirement is complicated

The interaction of FERS pension, the TSP, Social Security, FEHB, Medicare, VA disability, and state taxes is genuinely complex. Two retirees with identical service histories can end up with materially different outcomes based on decisions that look small on paper.

That complexity is exactly why education matters. It is also exactly why you should not make consequential decisions based solely on what you read here.

Get qualified help for irreversible decisions

Before you:

  • Submit your retirement application to OPM
  • Make a TSP withdrawal election (lump sum vs installments vs annuity)
  • Make a Social Security claiming decision (62 vs 67 vs 70)
  • Drop or change FEHB coverage
  • Elect or decline the Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) for military retirement
  • Execute a Roth conversion
  • Make any irreversible benefit election or financial transaction

Talk to a qualified, fiduciary financial advisor. Talk to a CPA who handles federal employee returns. Verify with the relevant agency. Reading articles is not a substitute for professional advice on irreversible decisions.
